For Sale: Mini Moke 998cc 1990

Clydesdale Classic Cars are proud to offer for sale this excellent, very low mileage and low owner 1990 Mini Moke 998cc.

Introducing the Mini Moke

This Moke was purchased from an enthusiast who loved and cherished the vehicle. The car was imported into the UK in 1990 and was located on the South Coast, where the owner enjoyed the benefit of a true British Classic.

Disk brakes, rearview mirrors, bull bars, heater. It runs beautifully, and this vehicle has never been in the rain. The coachwork is finished in White with White/Red Trim. The white hood is just as good as the rest of the vehicle, fitting well, as easy to use, and weathertight as any Mini Moke roof we’ve seen. The plastic windows are in good shape too.

The engine starts, revs and runs as it should, the clutch is good, and the gearbox is smooth through every gear. This is the best Mini Moke we have seen in a very long time, and I am sure the new owner will be delighted with their purchase.

Vehicle Details

External bonnet catches, louvred cooling panel, folding removable front screen, tubular front and rear bumpers, rear-mounted spare wheel, folding soft top—factory Options: Sump protector, rear grab handles, passenger seat, rear seats.

This Mini Moke is true to the original design, having never been restored. The pressed steel unitary construction allows easy viewing, and purists will be amazed at all the factory spot welds and perfect panel overlays—tubular bumpers. The detachable, hinged bonnet and fold-down windscreen are great Moke features, along with the folding fabric-covered roof.

Lucas headlamps with chromed bezels have a mirror finish—a rare factory optional sump protector. One of the fascinating Mini incarnations is extremely rare in this condition.

Sparse, exposed and immense fun best describe a Moke interior! Simplicity in all aspects treats the driver to basic controls familiar to most Mini owners, with fresh air aplenty! All the instruments, switches and warning lights function.

This example is fitted with the optional passenger and rear seats, with new linked cushions and securing tabs. Optional rear grab handles are also included, and the folding hood is in prime condition. Wonderfully quirky.

Model History

The Mini’s boldest reinvention – the Jeep-like Moke was conceived as a military vehicle but rejected by the British Army and subsequently was redeveloped for the civilian market, with deliveries commencing in 1964.

Production was transferred abroad after 1968, continuing in Australia until 1981. Australian-built Mokes were already being exported to Portugal in kit form, and production commenced in 1983.

In 1990 Rover sold the Moke project to Cagiva, which continued production in Portugal until 1993. Sold overseas as a utility vehicle, the Moke captured the 1960s’ spirit of freedom and self-expression more effectively than any other car.

The Moke’s prominent role in Patrick McGoohan’s cult TV series The Prisoner has only served to maintain its popularity, and today this quirky Mini variant remains highly sought after.
