Introduction to the Austin Mini Moke

The Mini’s boldest reinvention – the Jeep-like Moke was conceived as a military vehicle but rejected by the British Army, and subsequently redeveloped for the civilian market, with deliveries commencing in 1964.

Production was transferred abroad after 1968, continuing in Australia until 1981. Australian-built Mokes were already being exported to Portugal in kit form and production proper commenced there in 1983.

In 1990 Rover sold the Moke project to Cagiva, which continued production in Portugal until 1993. Sold overseas as a utility vehicle, the Moke captured the 1960s’ spirit of freedom and self-expression more effectively than any other car.

The Moke’s prominent role in Patrick McGoohan’s cult TV series The Prisoner has only served to maintain its popularity, and today this quirky Mini variant remains highly sought after.

Vehicle History & Information

This particular Austin Mini Moke was restored by well-known Mini Moke specialists Runamoke.

The vehicle was then sold to a client who took the car to Majorca.

It is registered in Majorca and on Spanish number plates, so it can quickly be taken back to Spain or registered in the UK, whichever the new owner prefers.

The vehicle was originally a right-hand drive model but was converted to a left-hand drive by Runamoke for use in Majorca in November 2009.

This lovely home market Austin Mini Moke was produced in March 1967.

The Heritage certificate on file confirms it was originally Spruce Green and retains its original body.

The interior is correct, so seeing a standard-looking Moke running the right 10” wheels is nice.

This Moke has been recommissioned, so the new owner can jump in and enjoy it.

Summary

As a result of its lack of use, the original body and components are beautifully preserved, including the black vinyl seats and the original steering wheel.

Running and driving well, this Austin Mini Moke is even nicely equipped with full weather gear, allowing for year-round use if so desired.

With the tiny mileage, this Moke is a highly desirable collectors’ piece, ideal for a summer residence or an eye-catching addition to any collection, and a fun way to see and be seen.

It runs beautifully and this vehicle has never been out in the rain.

The coachwork is finished in Green with Black Trim.

The Black hood is just as good as the rest of the vehicle, fitting well and being as easy to use and weathertight as any Mini Moke roof we’ve seen. The plastic windows are in good shape too.

The engine starts, revs, and runs as it should, the clutch is good, and the gearbox is very smooth through every gear.

This is the best Austin Mini Moke we have seen in a very long time, and I am sure the new owner will be very pleased with their purchase.
